Micro Wonders, Macro Responsibility | M31 “Green Miracle” Wetland Habitat Conservation Seminar

In late 2025, M31 hosted an ESG environmental seminar, “Green Miracle—Exploring the Micro World of Carnivorous Plants and Wetland Habitat Conservation.” Ms. Yueh-Mei Liu, Honorary Chairperson of the Society of Wilderness, was invited to guide employees in understanding wetland habitat conservation and the critical value of biodiversity through the survival strategies of carnivorous plants. These seemingly extraordinary adaptive mechanisms in nature are, in fact, the result of the continuous interaction between living organisms and their habitats, shaped through gradual evolution.

The event was not only something to hear about, but also something to see up close. Magnifiers were provided on site, allowing colleagues to closely observed the bladder traps of Utricularia (bladderwort)—tiny yet highly sophisticated and efficient trapping structures. Many participants shared that, once the details were magnified, carnivorous plants were no longer simply ‘cool’; rather, they became a vivid illustration of how each small structure represents an adaptation to environmental conditions shaped through evolution.

The session further deepened participants’ understanding of the multiple pressures facing carnivorous plant habitats in Taiwan, including wetland development, river eutrophication, herbicide application, and drought, all of which have made habitat loss increasingly urgent. To make the issue more relevant to everyday life, the speaker also used the nearby Lianhua Temple Wetland in Zhubei as an example, sharing local observations and current conservation efforts, and reminding colleagues that important ecological habitats are, in fact, closer than we might expect.

In addition, the session also introduced how the Society of Wilderness engages in habitat restoration and maintenance through initiatives such as ‘working holidays,’ demonstrating that conservation is not merely a concept, but a practical effort in which everyone can participate and contribute over time.

M31 will continue to promote diverse sustainability initiatives, deepening awareness and action in the environmental dimension (the “E” in ESG). Together with our partners, we strive to protect the environment and support biodiversity, ensuring that sustainability is not only discussed, but also put into practice step by step in everyday life.
