Exploring the Wild|Biodiversity on an Early Summer Night at Bawu Mountain

As night falls, life in the forest quietly begins to awaken.

This early summer, M31 teamed up with the Society of Wilderness to host a nighttime nature observation event at Bawu Mountain, inviting employees and their families to step into the forest and discover the wonders of nature together.

Guided by professional naturalists, everyone strolled along the trails, listening for the calls of frogs and looking for tiny creatures hidden among the leaves and grass. The adults took their time observing the surroundings, while the children eagerly searched for their next little discovery.

As the night grew darker, tiny lights began to appear among the trees. The sight of fireflies flickering and dancing through the forest filled the children with wonder and excitement—and added a truly magical touch to the early summer evening. Every time someone spotted a frog, an insect, or an interesting plant, delighted voices and laughter could be heard along the trail.

Through close observation and guided interpretation, everyone learned more about nocturnal wildlife and the important connections among the many species that make up a forest ecosystem.

The naturalists also shared simple ways to enjoy nature without disturbing it—from minimizing the use of light sources and avoiding touching wildlife, to staying on designated trails. These small actions remind us that appreciating nature also means giving it the space to thrive.

At M31, we believe sustainability is not only a corporate responsibility, but something everyone can take part in through everyday actions. As biodiversity becomes an increasingly important part of global sustainability efforts, conservation often begins with something simple: seeing, understanding, and learning to appreciate the natural world.

By stepping into the forest and observing how species and habitats interact, our employees and their families gained a closer understanding of the value of biodiversity—and brought home a little more awareness of how we can respect and care for nature in daily life.

A big thank-you to the Society of Wilderness for guiding us through this wonderful experience, and to all our M31 colleagues and families who joined with such enthusiasm.

On this early summer night, we did more than take a walk through the forest. Among the glow of fireflies and the sounds of the night, we discovered the beauty of biodiversity—and experienced, together, what it means to live in harmony with nature.
